Hi, I’m a Helsinki based artist Johan Olin. I’ve developed an obsession to ballpoint pens over the past ten years. I use a Bic Cristal Large (1,6 mm) ballpoint pen for my drawings. These pens are clumsy, messy and take the line to unpredictable paths. I sometimes try to control the line with rulers (like in that drawing above) but mostly prefer the lack of control these pens give you.
I have always drawn. My first sold works were comics for a Finnish weekly magazine Apu when I was 11 years old. During my studies in design and later working as a one, I mostly drew sketches and plans for items that someone else would be making. And I still very much do. But some ten years ago I started again to draw just for the sake of drawing. And that has been going on daily since.
All the drawings on sale are signed, unique, original artworks. Each purchased drawing is carefully wrapped in silk paper, placed in a plastic folder and shipped inside a sturdy envelope by DHL Express.
